Thank you for reacting to this one. I love Broadcast News so much! I think it’s so well written. Each character is completely engaging. I admit that a part of me wanted her to end up with Tom. He was opening up something she hadn’t had for a long time, maybe ever. She was allowing herself to feel the romantic/sexual side of herself and the desire for a personal life. And, of course, it was William Hurt! But I, also, really love the fact that she stuck with her principles. And in the end, it seems like she was finding a way to have a personal life while maintaining her career. I think it was telling to see Tom’s very supportive fiancé. She seemed like exactly what he needed and was a reminder that Jane wasn’t right for him either. The whole backdrop of the news was a great “character” in this movie as well. Some of the production scenes were exquisite! One of the film’s greatest lines has got to be “BobbyBobbyBobbyBobbyBobbyBobbyBobbyBobbyBobby…” 🤣 There are so many good lines. I actually met my best friend at a party over a shared line from the film. A group of us were talking about music and both of us said in unison that a certain band was “the devil…because they just bit by bit lower our standards where they really matter.” The movie was about 10 years old at that point and it was an obscure reference. We were instant friends!
