The tornado ending fits perfectly imo. It got me just like you the first time, but to paraphrase Marshak - "When the truth is found to be lies and there's a tornado coming, then what?" I think here the truth means safety. We zone out into our comfort zones and forget that danger lurks around the corner. Give it time and something will get you. I know it's grim, and paranoia is not an answer, but some things are bigger than us and some problems are way out of our control, regardless if we do something or do nothing. The "mystery" is, maybe, that no matter what life throws at you, somehow you have to go along with the whole travesty of safety, for yourself and for other people. Because they want the same feeling of being anchored in some sort of truth and your effort is literally the only thing that you can do to help. Same goes for them. And what chance do you have to explain anything anyway? Math can predicts some things... But real life problems - the right attitude here is "fuck it", go listen to some music that you like or a watch good movie. And maybe you will find some "illustrative stories" with which you can relate and which will, maybe, open a window of a perspective you didn't have just yet. Btw, watch "Burn After Reading" by the Coen bros when you get the chance, if you haven't already. I watched it when it came out but I remember the trademark Coen humor and exposition and I remember I enjoyed it. Would love to watch it again.
