The novella, A Hellbound Heart, is why I watched this film last year. Growing up, I used to freak out seeing the VHS cover of Hellraiser at Blockbuster, but I admit something about the Hell Priest/ lead cenobite (I don't like calling him Pinhead) was always alluring. They don't go too deep into it in the film, but Frank talks about how he's bored and lacking something in life. He basically goes in pursuit of the box (lament configuration), to find a greater pleasure beyond what he as a human can experience. Once you solve the puzzle, you welcome the cenobites. They're known as "angels to some and demons to others"; they have their own understanding of what pleasure is, which far exceeds that of the human mind/experience and can be seen as sadists. New film on Hulu changes that lore a bit, but it's an interesting change!

That’s not a real name given by the creator. It was a nickname by the crew that stuck and it started getting used in the press. The name is either The Priest, Hell Priest, or Lead Cenobite (though no name is ever really said in the films).
