I finally watched the film alongside and I forgot this is a really great movie. You can see why everyone tries to copy the dynamic. If you're looking for a genuine romance and you've already watched Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul just ended, it's a prequel about Walter White's lawyer, and it's also an amazing down to earth love story.

Oh, the movie they're watching over the phone, Casablanca, is one of the all time great romances and possibly the greatest movie ever made. For a more modern romantic comedy, Bridget Jones's Diary is great. When our local video shop closed, I managed to get the last VHS copy.

For a modern romance/ fantasy film id recommend RUBY SPARKS 2012 very underrated imo

This story is equal-parts Sally and Harry. This movie came out in 1989, likely inspiring every other film you mentioned. Rob Reiner (Misery, A Few Good Men, Princess Bride, etc.) directed. Written by recently remarried Nora Ephron. On an idea worked out between Ephron and Reiner, who had recently divorced, and was frustrated with dating. I love this movie. I adore how snapshots in time show how these two mature over 12 years. This film is 33 yrs old and remains fresh. Universal. Authentic. Some feel Woody Allen’s ‘Annie Hall’ is the true pre-cursor to WHMS. I see it more like a nod… because the earlier film doesn’t provide the balanced point-of-view WHMS does. Having said that, ‘Annie Hall’ is definitely another excellent romantic comedy. Arguably, Allen’s greatest film.

Loved the reaction. I never appreciated some of the snappy camera moves until you pointed them out, and I've seen this movie so many times! Credit to DP Barry Sonnenfeld and Director Rob Reiner on that one.

If you want to see another great Billy Crystal film, check out City Slickers mixes a buddy comedy with a modern day western. Also, the film veteran actor Jack Palance won his Academy Award for. Also, if you want to see another cool romantic comedy with Meg Ryan highly recommend both Sleepless in Seattle and IQ. Sleepless in Seattle stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Also, IQ stars Tim Robbins, Meg Ryan, and Walter Matthau. It also creates a romantic comedy and bases the fictional story around a legendary figure in history. A film that is very cleverly written.

I always thought the story was equally about both but I can see where you feel it was more Harry's story. The title may even suggest you are correct because Harry is the subject in "When Harry Met Sally" (if I'm remembering my 3rd grade grammar lessons correctly). I've watched this movie like 10 times but never from that perspective. Good times, James.

I am a sucker for romantic comedies too. A not as well know one and one of my favorites is Serendipity with John Cusak. Not really a Christmas movie but it takes place around that time so I always watch it during Christmas.
