So I’m heavily intrigued behind the lore and filmmaking in Alien(s). So much that I’d like to go even deeper and talk further about the filmmaking or themes that can be explored and conversed between us. Hopefully this can become a cool thing and we can add other films along this new type of content.

• PLEASE READ:

Any Links related to ALIEN(s) filmmaking or lore is perfect. This could be behind the scenes, cosmetics, the writing, directors audios, video essays, other adaptations..etc! Suggest a link with title name included. You can provide a description as well..the TOP 3 (Patreon only) Links will be the ones I’ll be choosing to explore all in one expansive video, including the ten links selected from Youtube.

This will come with more flexible range with editing and allow us to just talk more about why these films are so beloved. I can also PAUSE TOO. I feel like I do well in explaining them in the reaction videos, however that’s honestly just the tip of the iceberg and would personally love to go deeper, now with y’all included! 🙏🏽

Netflix did an episode on Aliens for their series The Movies that Made Us that I think would be a fun watch. I really enjoyed it. There's a great channel called Alien Theory that has all kinds of fantastic content on the movies and beyond! That could be a good starting point. If you really want to get immersed and I think you said you're into games, Alien Isolation is highly recommended. It follows the story of Ripley's daughter, Amanda, 15 years after the events of Alien. There is also Nostromo game play.

My digital copy of Aliens has a special feature called "THE INSPIRATION AND DESIGN OF ALIENS" on Movies Anywhere where James Cameron talks about a lot of BTS and shows off some of the concept art. I'm not sure if the special features come along with it, but I can send you a Screen Pass to share it with you on Movies Anywhere to see if it does.

In 1979 Ridley Scott’s Alien changed the landscape of both the sci-fi and horror movie genres. It also kickstarted a media franchise that is still alive and well today. The success of the 1979 classic has spawned sequels, novels, comic books, toys, and even video games. The film franchise has three sequels, two prequels and has even crossed over to the Predator movie franchise. Moviegoers can expect to see more of the acid-spewing aliens on the big screen. But if you are just getting into this popular film franchise you might need some help piecing it all together. Here is a breakdown of the Alien movie saga. https://youtu.be/B2l2tWZdJII

Found this article on Dan O'Bannon having to fight to get his name credited for writing the story for Alien. Pretty wild. https://alienexplorations.blogspot.com/2016/09/alien-dan-obannon-vs-messrs-giler-and.html?m=1

A small trivia easter egg on the Prometheus website showed a journal entry from Peter Weyland (aka Guy Pearce) and it referenced his friend, Eldon Tyrell, who had a fatal Frankenstein encounter with one of his creations. For those of us who were aware of it, that journal entry was mentioning the film Bladerunner when the replicant Roy Batty crushed Eldon Tyrell's head. Tyrell was the head of the Tyrell Corporation and they had the motto: "More human than human"

Films that *hugely* influenced Alien:
It! The Terror From Beyond Space

Queen of Blood

Forbidden Planet

Planet of Vampires

Star Trek ep The Devil in the Dark

Star Trek ep Operation Annihilate

I find it very odd that almost no one has connected those 2 Trek eps to Alien. They're most of the story...plus O'Bannon's stomach problems of course.

Matt

Not connected or anything but Raised By Wolves is a great sifi show by Ridley Scott on HBO Max, Seems like something you'd love James

A New Jersey high school staged Alien, and did a good job of it too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX3VaFG7AvU&t=3181s

I'm sure this is in the links already posted, but I think Bolaji Badejo's screen test is so cool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4bw9gOy2Ps

Yaphet Kotto was an absolute legend of a man and every interview of his should be read. This was an unpublished one until after his death: https://www.ign.com/articles/remembering-yaphet-kotto-legacy-alien-interview

Andrew Stanton mentioned how the Alien screenplay inspired him on how he wrote Wall-E's screenplay, and there's a breakdown of that here: https://gointothestory.blcklst.com/a-connection-between-wall-e-and-alien-eba3b54d8ca0

The Alien Anthology DVD/Blu Ray release has a huge amount of fascinating material on the making of the first 4 Alien films, plus an alternate version of each of the movies themselves. Does a great job of dispelling some of the myths behind their production while being infinitely more interesting. As for the "lore" I'm very much of the opinion that some things are better left to the imagination than having an explanation, and that's definitely the case with the Alien franchise. Everything after Alien3 is not "canon" as far as I'm concerned.

The look of the aliens and their habitat came from artist H. R. Giger. His work is amazing and definitely inspiring. Here is a documentary I found on youtube: https://youtu.be/mKfZM1tHWLo
