Nice. Original is very good. The remake kinda missed the point of it, and just became a generic movie. The blackcoats daughter (2015) is another less known horror movie, with a new take on a classic horror idea. Its really good and it would be cool if you watched it.

So happy you enjoyed this! I'd definitely avoid watching the American remake. Unfortunely, as Jørn Lysvoll already mentioned, they sucked out all that amazing atmosphere out and turned it into a generic horror movie that had no charm whatsoever. With respect to that scene where Eli is bleeding from the head/eyes, Oskar had wanted to know what would happen if Eli walked into a house without being invited, and that was the result. Additionally, if you were curious about gender, I do believe Eli was born a boy and well, from that quick bathroom shot you can surmise what happened in a general sense. I haven't read the book it's based on, but I read some details online after watching this movie myself. I do believe the older man who was caring for Eli used to be an Oskar himself once, which just adds an additional layer of sadness to the story when you realize how Eli and Oskar's story will play out in the end.

Hey J -- I just wanted to recommend reading the book, as it goes into so much more detail on a variety of things. There are additional layers to all of the characters, Eli especially. It's far more perilous being a vampire than shown in the movie. Really great, suspensful book, but be warned, really graphic in some not so pleasant ways. ----- spoiler ----- I also wanted to point out that in the book you learn that the older man with Eli was not like Oskar, but in fact Eli recruited him as an adult to be her helper (familiar sort of?) after he'd been shunned by society (for being a pedophile). There's also lovely short story the author wrote as a follow up to this to give some insight into Eli and Oskar's life together after the fact, and it's far more pleasant than one may expect.
