I was a little kid when this came out, but it became a staple of cable tv and local channels on the weekend through the 80s and 90s as well as being a staple at video stores. It had two sequels so it was pretty popular.

you need to watch National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1. It makes fun of Lethal Weapon with the same slapstick comedy. Better than the Naked Gun in my opinion.
