So I’m about to release my reaction to The Hunt tomorrow. Brilliant film, but also one of the most difficult films I’ve ever experienced watching..and I’ve sat through Come and See. It definitely brought up some trauma that I do explain and talk about alittle within the video (editing it now), but I wanted to give a heads up because I do become very vulnerable with this.

Being a black man and the blanket of what that brings forth has always covered who I actually am..truly..am..James Adams. In my life I’ve faced many accusations of my character due to my skin. Walked into a grocery store, that’s when the store owner and employees “follow” me. Recently move into the suburbs, that’s when the eyes start to glare. I don’t say much because I’m used to it..but this film brought up an experience that really shook me when I was younger.

I was with some friends heading to a Wawa before several cop cars pulled in the parking lot and circled around us. An officer got out of the car and immediately asked what we were up too. Me being 15, just stated we were going to get some food. The following events, looking back as an older version of myself, make me want to explode. We were accused of a recent jumping that had occurred and told to put our hands against the wall for a full body search. I didn’t know what to say nor do. It happened. In public. In front of everyone. I had no idea what the description of these people were, if they looked like me, if it even happened. Never felt so humiliated especially as others walking into the Wawa glared at us. Shaking their heads, labeling us before even gathering context.

This film is beautiful. Truly. I’m grateful for films like these because I believe they truly bring alot of awareness even outside of the subject manner because it’s more of a character study.

I just wanted to give you guys a heads up because this is the most vocal I’ve been on a video, and definitely the most vulnerable and I asked for you guys to find a way to respect that.

Love y’all, can’t wait to show you guys! <3

No matter what, we will always support you, you truly have a community of understanding and special people. Thank you for sharing about this, as hard as it may have been

You are awesome and thank you for being you! I appreciate this insight you’re able to provide to us, too. 🙏

Thanks for sharing James. Film can sometimes affect us in visceral and emotional ways. And that’s a good thing. There are too many mundane and homogenous movies that make us feel nothing after watching made nowadays.

100%. I’m happy that we have films that are made for the soul purpose of just educating us in their storytelling.

There's a lot to unpack or say, but I feel like all that matters is that you know you're appreciated. Not just for creating a community that discusses films in such an open way, but for being open yourself as well.

We love your honesty James. I’ve had to deal with my fair share of profiling due to my Middle Eastern decent, and it’s probably no where near the experiences you’ve faced. Just know you have a community that’s compassionate and empathizes with you.

You are incredible James. Thank you for sharing and thank you for being you. I value your insights into film and you’ve helped me explore different films through various lenses. Hell you even responded to a message and helped me out during my film class when I had questions. You’re a straight bad ass brother and I wish you all the best in your future, you deserve it.

I find that even if it’s the slightest, when two people can understand and relate..a lot of love can really grow from that. Sorry for what you’ve gone through, and let’s both go forward spreading positivity.

Thank you for sharing your experience. What happened to you was wrong. Such injustice thrives on silence and lies. Speaking out is fighting it. We're with you.

Appreciate your point of view!

Not much I can offer to this conversation I fear. But thank you very much for sharing. Sharing is important. I guess if I had to say something I should be glad I was never… persecuted(I guess) for being autistic. Though there was this one time where a guy interviewing me for a job asked if I could read(really pissed off my mom). But that’s about all I can share, and of course it’s nothing compared to what you just shared James. I must say though, you are truly a good person from I’ve seen from you.
