What an incredible pole! Hope you’re doing well man! I’m voting for Stalker! I really think it’s my favorite Tarkovsky film, and really explores our collective human condition, I think it would make for an excellent discussion!

I would recommend the 2001 extended Apocalypse Now Redux version; mostly for the extra French plantation 'chapter' footage.

If Apocalypse Now makes the top 2 I'd like to humbly suggest that you watch the original 1979 cut. The "Redux" and "Final Cut" versions have some curiosity value, but neither of them are a patch on the masterful original.

I would recommend that to someone who has already seen the (pretty much flawless) original cut and is curious about it. It's an interesting sequence but doesn't improve the experience in my opinion. The Redux is a lesson in the importance of good editing.

I saw Apocalypse Now a few months ago and was blown away by the cinematography and performances! If you’re sensitive to violence against animals (I am), I’ll warn you that there’s a horrific scene toward the end that was NOT fake. Additionally, Brandon told me he had issues getting his uploaded to YouTube due to copyright or whatever. I’d still love to see a reaction to it though!

Glad Baby Driver made the list. The film editing in that film is a masterpiece. Why it was nominated for that at the Oscars. By the way, the lead actor in that, Ansel Elgort, is the lead actor in Spielberg’s version of West Side Story coming out later this year.

Haven't seen Roger Rabbit since the 80s. It'll be interesting to see what I think of it as an adult and if it's held up.

For everyone that wants to see James’ review of the Hunt it will never happen the way the crowd votes. So, James just watch it on your own and give the Hunt followers who have been diligently voting for it a quick 5 min review. They deserve it.

Kinda wanna say True Grit is underrated, but it had like 10 Oscar nominations and has a plenty high enough imdb rating - just feels like not enough people have seen it, certainly one of my favourite westerns. That and Gangster Squad kinda represent the rebirth of Josh Brolin's movie career too which makes it an interesting curiosity. Hailee Steinfeld is amazing and so well written for in that movie..

If Apocalypse Now does end up winning, I hope you watch the theatrical cut, not the Redux version. The theatrical cut is superior, which is a rare thing to find because usually director's cuts are better. Not that the Redux version is bad, but it just contains a lot of unnecessary scenes that slow the pace of the film down.

Mommy is seriously good and underrated. No way it will win but just happy to see it on the list. Too bad Adaptation never won :(

The shear technical mastery and the way the movie holds up: Who Framed Roger Rabbit is for my money worth the watch for its remarkable film making. Dark City is a singular movie and is a different experience and my runner-up. For one not on the list look into Hard Boiled by John Woo featuring Chow Yun Fat. It is truly amazing film making and nothing like it exists in western cinema.

My votes in priority order: 1 Stalker Perhaps my favourite Tarkovsky 2 Death of Stalin Hopefully will get the numbers soon 3 Who Framed Roger Rabbit a terrific combination of animation and live action 4 Baby Driver is terrific, by Edgar Wright who did Shaun of the Dead 5 The Handmaiden (see Death of Stalin comment) BTW Are votes for multiple movies OK or should it only be for 1 or 2?

I want to say if a movie doesn't win a poll here try not to get too sad about it. Life is too precious to be distraught about that kind of thing. Like it's fine to be disappointed but I feel it's inappropriate to vent frustrations to a certain level. I really feel like it might approach that with some people. I don't know James and maybe it's not my place at all to worry for him but I really don't want people to stress him out. He's already doing quite a lot of reactions to stuff. He's being recommended films from people all over the world (and maybe beings from other worlds?). Even if he won't watch it he'll at least learn about the titles and directors. I really feel that he's hearing us directly and I don't want to sully that openness to what we're saying.

The Hunt, definitely! It's an very thoughtful movie that tackles a very, very delicate subject with care and respect. Mads Mikkelsen is amazing, as always. I'm from The Netherlands, Scandinavian film and tv series are very popular here and I'm always amused how Mads Mikkelsen always seems to be cast as the bad guy in American cinema and tv, when he is mostly cast as the sympathetic lead in Danish/Scandinavian productions. Great movie, I saw it in cinema at the time and was blown away. The story even was adapted for theatre in the U.K. I would also recommend After The Wedding (also with MM), As It Is In Heaven (a Swedish feelgood drama that ran for an entire year in arthouse cinemas in Europe it was that popular) and if you want to check out the Scandinavian "Dogme 95" experimental movement of "pure filmmaking", definitely check out Festen (The Celebration), or any other work by Thomas Vinterberg! I really hope you will branch out into more European movies, there are so many gems produced here that often receive high praise and popularity here whilst going completely unnoticed in the U.S. (or worse, being remade there in English which is just..... yeah :S). Also: The Lives Of Others (Das Leben Der Anderen), an amazing German movie, and Guillermo del Toro's stunningly beautiful Pan's Labyrinth. Both movies were Oscar winners for very good reasons.

In film school I had a prof that was obsessed with Apocalypse Now, but he never had us watch the film, instead he started every class period dissecting 15 minutes of the behind the scenes footage... still haven't seen it lol
