Apocalypto, in my opinion, is Mel Gibson's best film as a director. I was underwhelmed by Hacksaw Ridge I'm sorry to say. Might make a nice double feature with The Fountain, since they were released around the same time, are both connected to Mayan culture and both feature the same actor in a "High Priest" type role.

Beautiful boy is fantastic, but very heavy with little relief. The acting is superb and it really shows the affect addiction has on families. Hopefully it eventually wins in the future.

Didn't expect Prospero's Books to appear in this list. Peter Greenaway is a unique director, more a painter, and even if his movies aren't for everyone it is a great way to broaden your view of what people can do with this medium. Big thumbs up for including it on the list. But first, let's get The Handmaiden over the finish line! She is so close...
