Horatio Nelson was the most famous admiral in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic wars. Trafalgar Square in England is named after his victory at the Battle of Trafalgar, where he was killed but the battle crippled the French fleet giving England naval supremacy. In the dialogue of the movie you here Captain Aubrey reference fighting with Nelson "at the Nile" which was a previous victory he had won in the southeast Mediterranean when France was attempting to invade Egypt. Thanks for the reaction!

Thanks for posting the vimeo link James! I was really glad when this won the poll because not enough people have seen this. Peter Weir's a great director. The sound design on this film is pretty epics. Pretty sure they won the Oscar for sound editing on this one.

In Naval battles of this time the biggest danger was splinters(shrapnel) from cannon balls not the cannon balls them selves. that is what wound Lord Blakley and why they had to amputate his arm.

This is one of the most period accurate movies ever made

Thank you for posting the link - do you think you could possibly also do this for your Mulholland Drive video, if it isn't too much trouble? It's unavailable in my country as well, which is a damn shame, because I love that film and would be interested in hearing your take on it.

A.I. needs to be put on. Also, you like SciFi.... 'Minority Report' needs to make the polls

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Yes close encounters. Arguably Spielberg’s best film.

This movie is based on an awesome series of historical novels by Patrick O'Brien that follow the Captain and the Doctor. The author put ridiculous amounts of research and detail into the books. They put in parts of many of the novels, and little references to other bits, like Stephen being a spy as well as a doctor, and even the names on the cannons. The joke at dinner was a pun on "the lesser of two evils" - weevils being the little bugs that live in the hardtack (stored on the ship for months).
