Carlos

Can't wait til you get to season 2. If you thought this season is stunning to look at, you just wait.

You need to see the behind the scenes of the "Volume" A full 360 led screen set that allows them to digitally project the backgrounds/sets using Unreal engine. It's incredible and a game changer with filmmaking!!!

Mike Cummins

Sooooooo much CGI in this show you don't even know is happening and it's happening in real-time on the "set" while the camera is synced up to the background to keep the illusion of filming a 3d environment with depth! The bar at the start of episode 1 is 90% fake if that peaks your interest.

Hey Mike, glad you're enjoying it. Not trying to pick a fight, truly curious. Why is it enjoyable to you to watch something that's 90% fake? Background here, old timer, 56. Missed the video game era and basically only watch old action movies with real stunts "Mad Max". I do enjoy great cinematography, "Lawrence of Arabia, 2001" Does this new tech add any visual stimulation that can't already be produced? Or is it that it just allows filmmakers to create more imaginative sets? Would love to hear about this! Thanks! Pat

Glad you asked. For me the most exciting part is how this technology will help artists put their imagination to screen faster and cheaper. I agree that real sets are amazing but they also cost a lot of time and money. With the "Volume" they are able to light the scenes using the room itself. Because of this the lighting is perfect even though the sets are fake. Also helps the actors with authenticity cause unlike green screen they can see their environment in real time. And if the director doesn't like a particular part of the set, say a mountain in the distance. They can literally move it right there on the spot and change the scene. These are the things that get me the most excited. Myself as an example. I'm a musician, when I started the only way to get an album was to pay a shit load to a studio or be signed by one. Now I can record, mix and master an entire album on my laptop. I just love anything that helps the artists put out their art with as little barriers as possible. The art is the same, how it got to you is just a little different.

Thanks! I thought this might be wha you were getting at. So for example, Kubrick's famous lighting effects in Barry Lyndon could still be acheived realistically while the gorgeous sets could be digitally maniplutated? Do I have the idea here?

Pretty much not sure if it will let you click the link or not but insider did an awesome video showcase of the tech. https://youtu.be/Ufp8weYYDE8
