Really hope you go through all of Denis Villeneuves filmography. If you loved Sicario and Prisoners the rest of his films will not disappoint. Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 are two of the best films of last decade and even his early foreign language films Polytechnique and Incendies are both incredible as well

^ Like AJ said, Villeneuves is definitely one of the best modern directors - every single one of his movies (there's not many) have been a masterpiece. Personally, I think this is his best though. That's just my opinion. While this movie had it's christian elements I'm not sure if it's as metaphorical as you think. I think the main thing is that Keller was a devout man, who lost his christian values when he lost he daughter. Ultimately, that was the "war" that the evil couple were "waging with god" and it means that they won. Also it's important to note 2 big things about Keller's ending. 1.) He is punished for his transgressions. Whether he stays in the pit or is sent to prison, his "sins" have real consequences. 2.) The movie is written in such a way that we can accept that he has sinned, because absolutely nothing is solved by Keller's actions. The rescue in the end is only from evidence that Det. Loki found himself NOT from Keller. Basically, Loki would have always brought this movie to the exact same ending and Keller's actions are never truly justified (except in our eyes - since we can empathize).
