LEVEL 3 for the 3 prop challenge reveal!
November/December Patreon Challenge

Level 3
Draw a Character WITH the scene of props that you created in the first 2 levels of the challenge!  If possible have the character interacting with at least one of the props in some way.

Feel free to color if you want.  (they are just lineart here because I was in a bit of a rush to put this challenge together)

This is the PERFECT challenge to accompany the recent backgrounds tutorial!

If you haven't yet started any of the levels, here is a review of the first 2 levels of the challenge!

Level 1 Draw 3 separate props that you could imagine being in the same room with one of your characters (or if you don't have a character, you can just pick props that have an aesthetic that you like.)

  • Pick 1 large or large-ish prop, 1 medium prop, and 1 small prop.
  • Don't hesitate to look up a lot of reference for the props that you pick!!
  • Feel free to color them if you want.  (they are just lineart here because I was in a bit of a rush to put this challenge together after work!)

Level 2 Arrange the 3 props into an aesthetically pleasing/interesting composition.  Think of this composition as a little nook or corner of a room.  The objects can and probably should overlap.

  • In digital, arranging these is fairly easy by using the move tool.  If you are a traditional artist, hey! at least you get more practice drawing the props again, and that's not a bad thing!  The more practice you get, the easier drawing props will be in the future!
  • Keep in mind perspective when arranging the props together.  It doesn't have to be perfect, but the perspective should at least somewhat match each other.

I'm strangely excited about this one.  I think doing this challenge is a first step to feeling A LOT more comfortable to drawing backgrounds with actual THINGS in them and making a space look interesting.
