Hel, ruler of the land of the dead (Niflheim, also sometimes called Helheim), where she rules over the souls who did not die in battle.  Although she is commonly referred to as a goddess of the dead in modern texts, Hel was more giantess then goddess, being one of the three children of Loki and the giant Angrboda.
Hel’s relatively unthreatening nature is likely why she was not punished as harshly as her family members. While her father and brothers were all bound, Hel was sent to a far-off realm to be a ruler.

In reading about Hel, I started to imagine her as a little more gentle then some of the other gods.  Perhaps being a bit shy and most comfortable tending to the dead in her icy realm.

According to some sources she also had a hell hound named Garmr.  It is speculated that Garmr could be identical to Fenrir, but for this interpretation, I'm going to go ahead and say that Garmr is just Hel's personal helhound companion since I imagine Fenrir would be MUCH larger.

I hope you like her!  I feel like I was really able to get into a flow with this piece finally, which is nice, but of course that means I'm going to bed very late tonight!  Woops!

Cassie

Love it!!

Since both Garmr and Fenrir are mentioned separately, I'd say that they are two different dogs. Maybe I'm mixing in Lars Henrik Olsen and his Erik Menneskesön in with the lore, but isn't Garmr supposed to guard the entrance to Hel? Maybe Heimskringla has more on this.

Uuuh that’s nice!😍 This monochrom theme with the little highlight of color fits so good to the design. She and her companion look amazing ( with and withou clothes 😏)!❤️

That's what I think too and yeah it seems like Garmr fills more a of a role similar to what Cerberus fills in greek mythology, guarding the entrance of hel, like you said. Might be interesting to read more about it.

Oooh! Thank you so much! Yeah, I feel like during the process I played a bit with more color but having a it mostly desaturated except for the red really seemed to suite the feeling of a cold underworld the best.

Redoniaa

This is epic O.O

This is the punishment I get for missing your stream, I missed out on you creating the masterpiece of darkness and beauty. "Come here fluffy Garmr! You want to go on my wall? YES you do! Who's a good hellhound." Pat pat pat pat.

Mark Hossack
