Just watched Beau of the Fifth Coloumn's video on Biden's 1+ billion dollar investment into US rail, made me so happy.

As great as this is, the $66 billion Biden and Congress have budgeted for passenger rail is a drop in the bucket. There are no proposals to keep the rail money coming when this runs out in a few years. Until the U.S. gets serious enough to create a permanent trust fund for passenger rail that's as big on an annual basis as the Highway Trust Fund, we're never going to have a truly world-class passenger rail system. But that's only half of it. We also have to completely re-think the Amtrak model for providing passenger rail service. The Amtrak model has been broken since May 1, 1971, when Amtrak first took over what was left of the dying and decrepit U.S. passenger rail network. There is no political will yet to do this either.
