Well, getting this out by Thursday didn't happen, unfortunately.  I should have realized with Thanksgiving and everything that I'd be otherwise occupied with family matters.  Still, here it is!

Introspection, a look at how the Hokage is handling Kotaro's reputation behind the scenes, and a few other interesting tidbits here and there.

Next up will either be a quest update or Winning Peace.

I hope everyone has had a safe holiday season so far and will continue to do so.  Rock on, stay awesome, and thanks again for all the support!

Chapter 51: I sighed as I walked into the room, giving a nod to Uzumaki Ise, the dark-haired man having become something of a point of contact for me with the hospital, if only because of simple familiarity and his membership in the Uzumaki clan.

Dear me, another story where a forgettable character like Kurenai is portrayed close to reality demonstrating that looks are very important for advancing in life. She not only lacks the combat ability to be an elite but also the knowhow to avoid social blunders that would have her nose rubbed in the mud if she wasn't hot. The 3rd wants this one as a daughter-in-law?

Could possibly be an ulterior motive for asking for grandchildren, get her to become a housewife early to make sure she is less likely to get herself killed in the field, and less likely to say shit she shouldn't right in front of people capable of raising a stink about it.

Wonder if the Chunin exams are coming up

No offense intended, but this chapter felt a lot like a nothing-burger. We already have a strong sense of how the secrecy is/isn't being kept, and the MC's weirdness in regards to social position, clan ties, marriage prospects, unnatural skills, unprecedentedness, and a dozen other adjectives. These aspects have all been well explored in previous chapters. Unless Kurenai is going to become a more important character in the future, it feels like this could've been skipped without losing much of anything.

I understand the critique, but I feel that this chapter was necessary (or at least warranted) on a few points. The first is that while all those things are *true*, they've been explained in multiple chapters across the larger narrative and never been brought together in a single discussion that encompasses all of them to showcase how they're being explained to people whose rank requires an explanation. Kurenai was just the best character to use in this particular instance to showcase this as a singular example of a larger trend among the more elite troops. Moreover, with the inclusion of Hinata (and Kiba/Shino relatively soon), Kurenai will be more relevant to that plot. Perhaps not immediately, but soon. All of that said, though, not every chapter is going to be as interesting as others. Some are necessarily behind-the-scenes homework and I can't really help that. Hopefully you'll feel the next few are more relevant/interesting.

2023-12-25 04:31:38 Yeah, Kurenai just showed why she'll always be a B-tier jounin in this chapter. Sure, she lacks information on the MC's full abilities, but just his smithing alone amplifies the combat potential of all of Konoha's shinobi. I'm not sure the Kurenai in the manga/anime would ever think something as dumb as "why isn't the young boy who just forged her a blade equal to one of the Seven Swords in the field?", but it's been a while since I've read or watched. And as far as she knows, he's not well-rounded enough to survive the elites that would be sent after him if his smithing abilities were known.
