Once again, the title takes me down the wrong path! Darn you, Saileri! :P Nice chapter. I'm betting ensuring Glimmervale is safe will be more than a single chapter diversion. I mean they need to be able to take Sylvie with them, so definitely more than a chapter. By the way, Grea. Just sayin. C'mon already.

Ralph

After reading this awesome chapter, I think the princess will be joining them for sure.

My hypothesis is that Red told Ast to find the Desending spire because the other half of his Dragons Heart is sealed within and that is why he feels "half dead' to Venuz. Great Chapter!

Greg Szarko

I'm pretty sure Ast, knows that the seal was put in place to protect him (as stated in the flash backs). Why isn't he taking that seriously, especially after the run in with the other dragon?

Saileri

What do you mean not taking it seriously? He is taking it very seriously and carefully. The thing that meant to "protect him" is long gone since Chapter 3 of the entire story. The best he can do right now is to learn more about himself and control it. The memory seal was another part of that "protection" which was on top of the barrier in case someone actually found him and tried to pry into his mind. Right now it's only detrimental to him since just existing reveals enough, that's what we've learned from the situation with Blood Summoning where she only somewhat recognized what he was, which resulted in a possible misunderstanding (ignoring the nature of Dragons and Red's advice). The whole other thing is the definition of "protecting him". We don't really know what they mean by that. The situation with the Dragon at least hinted that he is not to be instantly recognized as some uber threat by others since she turned on him for a different reason. There are various perspectives at play here and we know only bits of them, with the most crucial and mysterious still being Red's and Kaguya's. All in all, sitting on your ass or avoiding the problem entirely is just not possible at this stage. As dangerous as it could be, his only option is to follow Red's advice to grow stronger and visit the Spire. The message was clearly left for him for a reason.

Darth Mole

Awwwww I was wrong about my idea for the half dead situation :( oh well. Though I am surprised that no one has brought up that they are trying to undo all this stuff that his parents went through the trouble to apply to him for his own safety. Unless I missed/forgot that conversation.

Saileri

Well, we don't really know if what they did was meant to be permanent either :P

Darth Mole

I may have missed it somewhere, or remembering it wrong, but I thought it one of the conversations with Red and his mother, that red said they were trying to keep him hidden and if it worked he wouldn’t have anything to worry about ever because he would be “normal.” Up until now, save for him telling Ast to go to the Descending Spire after the situation with the dragon, I assumed that his parents intended for him to always fly under the radar.

Saileri

Who knows. They might as well wanted him to remain like that until they dealt with whatever they were going through ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ One day, we might know. But one thing is for certain, Red did put some additional "features" in Asterios in case he didn't stay "normal".

Kalel

It's interesting. Ast is still interpreting them as his parents, and whatever they were doing as somehow beneficial to him - and perhaps that is ultimately the author's intent. But a less charitable reading could make the entire thing come across as much more villainous. Kaguya's association of the infant Ast with 'younglings' they'd done battle with - and 'opponents' could be construed as them using an enemy's child for their own purposes. Red says 'barely any flesh' will be damaged, but clearly the implication is that there will be other types of damage - perhaps significant. So are they his parents, going through measures to protect him - or did they steal him away for their own purposes? Definitely curious to see where this is heading.

Saileri

I never said that they were "good" or "good parents" :P I think the story shows pretty decently what kind of people they are :v

Greg Szarko

Oh. I thought that for every memory he unlocked, he released more of his power therefore drawing more attention to himself. You're explanation makes more sense

FeyOne

We do have at least the one case of Red actively protecting Ast, and warning him about Dragons in general. So whatever the situation, it does seem that they were trying to protect Ast for some reason. We may not know their actual motives yet, but there does seem to be some actual relation between the three. That said, as Saileri pointed out, we have plenty of evidence that Neither Kaguya nor Red were what one would comfortably call "good". The flashes we've had of them make them both look pretty selfish, actually. So it isn't unreasonable to think that even if Ast is their child, they may have considered crippling, binding, sealing, and hiding him to be a perfectly acceptable way of "protecting" him from potential enemies while still letting themselves get on with their own personal interest and plotting. I'm honestly quite excited to find out what happens next. :)

Saileri

Ah, then apologies if it came out like that but no, memories aren't really connected to his power-ups :P Most of them come from contracting more summons and also discovering/getting in touch with his "inner self" which mostly happens either in critical moments or when they stumble on things connected to him like the vault. I guess the memories could have a part in it but quite small, like perhaps him seeing Red going full Dragon in Teira could make it easier for him to "believe" that he could possibly too, in turn easing up some mental block as the Demon King mentioned.

Saileri

Pretty much :P We know that Kaguya isn't exactly the role model her people thought before :v
