A result of the green slime creature getting zapped along with her and the two characters merging? I noticed that the injuries she had from the fight before getting shot are still there.

Perhaps when you die in the simulation, it puts you back in the nearest appropriate NPC. In this case David became a nearby captured pixie ranger. Unfortunately one what had already taken abuse.
