I don't know exactly why, but I have been experiencing difficulties in falling sleep  aperiodically for the past 3 weeks.  Sometimes I can't fall asleep until 4 A.M (like yesterday). And there has been 4 days that I couldn't fall asleep the whole night. This have been severely impacted my ability to sustain concentration on productive activities.

I'll try practice sleep hygiene and get myself back on track. Hope this horrible phase could pass soon. Trouble in sleeping feels really awful. If this continue, I will need to seek medical help.   🤢

Obligatory, have you tried: melatonin, gen 1 antihistamines or alcohol

HowXu

Well, Gen 1 antihistamines or alcohol doesn't sounds like a good idea. I read the book "Why We Sleep" by Matthew Walker, and the book mentions that sedating central nerve system through medication or alcohol would induce an unnatural state that the brain becomes silent during the sleep rather than the buzzing and systematic nerve firing during natural sleep. That means the health and cognitive benefit the sleep bring would also be absent.(In fact, the book outright says that our current scientific study has concluded that there's no health benefit in using sleeping pills we have today) Therefore the book suggest only use medication as last resort and try cognitive-behavior therapy first. On the other hand, Melatonin seems to be a better choice as it simply kick start the sleep rather than sedate our brain, but it can only be legally obtained through doctor's description in Taiwan. This is why my plan is to try sleep hygiene first, and go to a doctor if that didn't work. Still thanks for your suggestion.

Anytime:), I've done behavioral therapy and it's surprisingly effective. Only thing I have to note is, humans are goofy, so don't limit yourself to the standard 8-10 hour sleep cycle (if possible) experiment with different day-cycles as well as segmented sleep patterns. I personally do best with a 2/4/4 pattern. But I have the opposite problem you do. P.s. sorry for my broken english

It could be a little bit of stress or just a little bit of thinks ... For me, you should relax and take some time for yourself, even if it is a bit difficult at this time ... No coffee, tea or chocolate for a couple of days and everything will be fine = ^ ˽ ^ =

2023-01-22 17:26:12 Indeed, I found that in all four of the days that I couldn't sleep all night I drunk tea or intake a lot of suguar. Though I must said I didn't expect that drinking tea in the morning (around 9 am) would effect me so strongly 20 hours later. I didn't even drink a full cup. I'm very surprised my metabolic system can't handle that small amount of caffeine. In any case, I must avoid those substances at all cost. >_<

Oof, I'm so sorry to hear that! What's important is that you take care of yourself! I don't have any good suggestions myself as I'm kinda in the same situation, but I hope you find someone that works for you. 😁

Thanks, I’m happy to report that things have improved since. I found that if I set my goal to relax rather than fall asleep on the bed, it would be easier to actually fall asleep. Though it’s not perfect for now and I still had some difficulties from time to time. I planned to change my mattress in the near future. 🙂

I'm glad to hear it! (also noticed that I made a typo that kinda also works, meant "something that works" not "someone" but whatever works 😝)
