My thought on “Why is She Your Friend?” (Patreon)

The fact that these two ponies mares lives in the same house makes me wonder. There's a lot of differences between them, one is refined and classy, and another is rather wild and boorish. So there's may be a lot of conflicts between them just as the video depicted. Therefore I wonder why Octavia consider Vinyl her friend. And suddenly this story comes up to mind. I use the most powerful agent to explore their relationship, “the memory”. People said that memory is what define us as an individual being since everyone has their own unique personal autobiography. But memory serve more than that. It also define what other people are to us. To convincingly express that, I select five possible situation to create Vinyl’s image. These situation range from childhood to adulthood and each one is emotionally stronger than the other. From early caring, sharing, to later protecting and laughing together. Vinyl always there in Octavia’s important life moment. These memory become what Vinyl is in Octavia’s eyes. Therefore despite the Vinyl constantly upsetting her, Vinyl is still a true friend who appreciate, support and cherish their friendship. Other Fact: 1. I made this comic when the conflicts of Vinyl’s eye color still goes on. So I deliberately make her only take her glass off when in monochrome flash back so that I can avoid any controversy. 2. In that scene of the last flash back, my original concept was to imply that Vinyl and Octavia went different academic path. Vinyl underwent vocational education system and she got a job much earlier than Octavia who entered prestigious university for further academic pursuit. So in this scene, Vinyl were attending Octavia's graduation but not graduated with her.
