Have you tried role-playing (not the RPG kind) or perspective taking?

Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright are taking a look at Freaky Friday through the theme of perspective taking. It’s a legitimate therapy technique, and Jonathan explains how it’s used in a real setting. They talk about the assumptions and hurtful behaviors that culminate in Tess and Anna switching bodies. Alan praises the performances from Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan because they’re each acting as the other actor acting as the character. And they do it so well!

I don't know how I feel about the seat change.

I really like the Sunday Dinner relationship analogy; it's a succinct way of saying what my friend has been trying to relay to me for a while. I think the reason I have trouble with it, though, is that I don't really know how to have that relationship with my mother when she's genuinely interested in knowing everything but unable to handle the information. I suppose it needs to come with a boundary -- "I'm ok with sharing this information, and it's not open for input or discussion."

I listen to older CT episodes while winding down for bed. Because I listen and don't watch the screen, I didn't actually see the chair and shirt switch until the end of this episode. I was surprised how much it threw me. 😂

The perspective change is always the hardest. My mum used to say that my little sister was getting upset about the stupidest things. I kept having to remind her that this was the first time she had these experiences whereas my mum had decades to experience things, make mistakes, try new things
