How do you respond when life gets tough? Who are your role models for healthy masculinity?

Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright are breaking down 8 lessons for healthy masculinity through Rocky Balboa. Like Aragorn, he displays healthy masculinity, but he’s also humble, tender, strong, and teachable. They discuss how Rocky is a classic underdog story and probably the first to do it well. The character means a lot to Jonathan because of the valuable lessons about love, family, grief, and getting back up when life knocks you down. The training montages and frolicking in short shorts are a bonus.

I never thought I would ever watch this movie, but here I am watching a reaction to this movie. The reaction nobody asked for, but it's still entertaining! If this was anyone else, I wouldn't watch it, but look at Jono's face. He's so happy

"No one in our target demo is going to care about this" 😂 it's true for me anyhow -- I've never seen Rocky but I just might go back for them based on the therapy!

There's nothing better than the power of a good movie connecting to the people who may or may not know they need it. Thank you for this reaction.

I’ve never watched Rocky. This video may just push me over the edge to see it. Ironically enough, I have seen Creed 1 & 2.

Angie

Jono, your Rocky impression is *chef's kiss*

The Rocky movies are important to my family. We all love them! Thank you for doing this ♥️

Whoever added the James May “Cheese” reference in is now my favorite person on the team..

Angie

I bet it was Sophie! 😂 But if not, they've all hung out together enough that it's hard to tell anymore lol

I love how happy Jono is to breakdown this movie. Watching your suffering is entertaining, but seeing your genuine love for something tops that.

Well you did it, I'm gonna watch the Rocky movies. Look how happy Jono is 😊. Thank you for sharing this emotional part of your story. If you both are doing this for the next 40 years I'm with you 😄. Aaaand I really need a fun episode of Jono doing Impressions. I mean come on we've got Gollum, Stitch, Mickey Mouse, Rocky, Donkey, Po, Woody....

Alan, how DARE you imply we wouldn't care about Rocky?! FRIGGIN' ROCKY!!!!

I still don't think I'll ever watch them, but it is very touching that Jono is so into it and it's not just another super cheesy 70s/80s franchise

I watched these all the time in high school, but now that I watch them again they punch a little differently. I’m so thankful that Netflix brought these movies back on! If anything, it at least got me wanting to go to the gym again! 😂

In addition to great life lessons, you're right, they straight up are the best workout motivators.

I saw the series once about 15 years ago and loved them, I still haven’t seen the creed movies but that clip of Creed coming into the final round with the rocky theme gave me chills.

Feel free to do Rambo and trauma next! #EarlyStallone

If I may recommend a video on The Imitation Game, I know it’s not the most popular movie. But I feel that there’s a lot we can learn from studying it

I am actually disturbed by the accuracy of Jono’s Rocky impression. 😳 But it was amazing!
