How does Hiro find healing and move forward after losing his brother?

Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright talk about the stages of grief as seen in Big Hero 6 as Baymax and Hiro's friends help him through his grief and find healing and meaning after loss. They talk about the themes of choosing who we want to be and how Hiro's grief process helps him figure out who he wants to be, honoring the departed, the brother relationship between Hiro and Tadashi, and the truly incredible animation and physical comedy of Baymax. Also, this movie broke us. (Yes, there are tears. #cryingwithalan)

Oof. This episode hit home. My best friend passed away from terminal cancer two years ago. Grief sucks. It’s messy and painful and confusing and I hate it. The bit you said about picturing your loved one there and what would they say, etc. hit me HARD. Cuz I’ve had that conversation with my husband and it’s absolutely right. “Get up and stop being sad, Meg! I will haunt your ass if you don’t….”

I cry more watching this than the actual movie. I haven't experienced this kind of loss yet, but the idea of experiencing it is terrifying to me. Thank you for the preparation notes and for crying so that I can cry! Jono saying that we have to go through the process of grief reminds me of the movie The Fault in Our Stars, they say that pain demands to be felt.
