It has been quite a journey working on this mask, starting with making a plaster cast of my face back in February, and cooking on the concept for several months before that. The Wheel of Fortune is the third mask I've made in a series that I hope will eventually encompass every archetype of the major arcana of the tarot.

10 - The Wheel of Fortune

As far as my research has gone, The Wheel of Fortune has been the archetype with the most conflicting/nebulous description. I spent about 6 months sitting with this card and stringing together my knowledge with readings from woo woo deep divers in books and forums and blogs and videos, and arrived at these observations. The wheel to me is about change, time dilation, and dancing as a mode of being. The wheel is an androgynous character, light on their feet, and just beginning the journey of collective/sub/supconscious identity.

The Wheel of Fortune is the Magician (1) at a point of consonant growth and salience after he completes an arduous exploration the ego. If the Magician is a juggler of balls, the Wheel is a juggler of 4-dimensional patterns. The Wheel of Fortune is a chameleon, and a gate. The wheel warns us not to hold on too tightly, because all things are happening, happened, and will happen, unrelentingly. The current of time is a force untamable with clenched teeth.

Thank you to Hope Aldrighette for capturing photos of my performance.
