Testing eBay Molecular Sieves

In this video we test molecular sieves bought from eBay for their authenticity and quality and compare them to authentic lab grade molecular sieves. Molecular sieves are used for drying solvents by selectively removing water. So to test it we simply add water to activated molecular sieves.

I put same question on youtube, you only need to answer there - I just wanted you to know I'm a patreon and might get better odds for an answer.. :) Keep up the good work! Would it be possible to dry propane from water and ethanol contaminants with these sieves? does sieves collect H2O in gas-form or does it have to be liquid? (For diy heatpump / hvac project with propane as refrigerant)

yup. it also works for gases too. two things you have to consider. the type 3A that i use most often only adsorbs water, not anything bigger. So if you want to adsorb ethanol too i think you have to use 4A or 5A (i forgot which one is optimal vs propane). Second, sieves are somewhat dusty especially in vibrating systems where they grind against each other. You may need a fine particle filter down stream to catch any sieve dust.
