Make Concentrated Ammonia

In this video we make ammonia gas and dissolve it water from various chemicals easily accessible to the amateur. The first method is merely boiling household ammonia solution that's domestically available from the local supermarket. The ammonia boiled out is lead into cold water where it can be dissolved. While this did work the yield was quite low at around 2.5g per 100mL of household ammonia solution. From the 600mL of ammonia solution used only about 15g was obtained. The second method was to revisit the classic method to produce sodium nitrate from ammonium nitrate and sodium hydroxide by dissolving them both separately in water and then mixing them together and trying to boil out the ammonia. This worked terribly and i got almost no yield at all. The third method that seemed to work the best was to react urea and sodium hydroxide in water. This reaction was well-behaved, steady and easily performed with domestically available chemicals. Starting from 200mL water, 90g urea and 120g sodium hydroxide, about 38.6g of ammonia was obtained. I intend to use the ammonia in a future project to make nitric acid. Donate to NurdRage! Very good video. I am inspired to do similar one . Good work

Good work! As a total layman, I found it entertaining and informative.

Prolab sells 28 percent ammonia 500 ml to make other products (Organic reactions). It quite expensive 60 dollars.

Well it will be Interesting to see Ammonia gas being convert with Pt, etc into NO2. Is this nearly efficient as Nitrate salt and HCl or Sulfuric acid method of distillation?

60$ for 28% ammonia? Omg . Here in India I buy 30% ammonia for like 2.4 usd Lucky to have chemicals cheap here

I am not sure we can do Ostwald's process of making nitric acid in a lab. Because it needs around 1500F temperature and a pressure of around 1000kpa which isn't easy

However I don't know about the efficency like using electricity 12,000 volts 60-100 mA to produce Nitric acid but I heard the yield is terribly low. CHECK Extraction and Ire on it too.

Yes I saw them. It's not efficient true that
