Preview for your consideration. I'm once again distilling sulfuric acid. But i'm doing it with an improved technique.

Let me know if the video is interesting enough to show and/or if there are improvements or things i should add.

i'm going to try and release it on saturday or sunday.

I don't think the plastic container is a good idea. A container as wide as you used and on a bench would hopefully cool it enough before it melts through, but I think even your setup is a bit risky. In general this is just too hot and in too big a volume for plastic unless you have some sand in there to absorb the heat. A stainless tray would be safer. As far as I know stainless steel will hold boiling sulfuric acid for enough time to actually be ON the hotplate (assuming you act quickly on a breakage), is anyone here more familiar with that? If you can just put a cheap stainless casserole dish on the hotplate with the flask in it that could be convenient and would protect the hotplate too. For the timelapse you could maybe just talk about azeotropes? The sulfuric acid one is precise enough to be convenient as an analytical standard. A bit about the equilibrium of the different species in sulfuric acid of different concentrations and why concentrated H2SO4 is so different to dilute could be neat too.

You mention the 98% pure acid you are making, and the drain-cleaner acid you are using as input, but how does "tech grade" acid compare to either of these in terms of amounts and types of contaminants?
