Hi everyone!!

In the last video I left two sets of 3D printed parts on the machine, the leadscrew nut brackets and the motor mounts and that's a great excuse to machine the replacements with the machine itself.

I gave it a go and was able to machine the motor brackets out of 10mm alu plate and the nut  brackets out of 20mm plate. Although I still haven got the proper bits for each material and my feeds and speeds are all over the place the machine behaved well and I was able to do the job after a few tries.

I don't have the knowledge or the tools to find out if the machine is any better with metal parts or with 3D printed parts and to be honest I'm sure that the other known issues of the machine will be orders of magnitude more important.

I'll leave the door open to another attempt at the frame to try and get something that is better squared and parallel but I still need to think about it.

This is a project I've been enjoying a lot and I hope you are enjoying it too. Thanks!!

I MACHINED THE MILL PARTS WITH THE MILL

High you wont get a robust machine with square tube. And beleave me the difference between Aluminium and Steel is not so much. Lets make a test. Take a 1m (or longer) sqaure tube an clamp one side horizontly in a vise. Do a meassure from free end of the square tube to the flor. Now put a weight (1 ... 10kg) to the free end and do a second meassure. Do the same with Aluminium. As i told you the difference is not much a big as thought. The biggest goal on yor machine is to get the connection point as stiff as possible. Using thicker wall thickness is a first step.... I f you are able to weld may be you can weld 40x8mm Steelprofile to the side of your 40x40x2mm square tubes with the connections / screws / threads.... Make threads only on sides with this 40x8mm Steelprofiles. I take the easy way and use (for max robust millingmachines) 80x80mm Aluprofiles from ITEM24 Linearguides not under 20mm and no cheap ones. Rivet nuts ... are only PILLE PALLE ;o) Useable only for Shieldings ...
