Let's-a-go, I guess.

This year we're finally getting a new Mario movie that looks colorful and fun... but this is not that.

This is a dark and fucked up take on the world we know and love that does not resemble it in the slightest.

This is Super Mario Bros.

Inspired by, albeit completely ignoring, the classic Nintendo games, this 90's nightmare stars Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo as everyone’s favorite Italian plumbers, Dennis Hopper as Bowser, and Samantha Mathis as Princess... Daisy? Sure, why not! Fuck it!!!

I'm joined by video game experts Jake Baldino and, for the first time on a commentary track, oldschool PMI alum Andrew Gebbia!

the directors that made this movie haven’t played the games,so they just made a blade runner rip off that doesn’t feel like mario bros which is why it’s the same set designer from tha movie, they must’ve took cliff notes,it feels like two different movies at once.also big bertha is a piranha fish from the games just to let you know tho,and this movie came out before Jurassic Park,Mario bros budget was $48 million and Jurassic Park’s was $63 million

I’m very stoked to see the new mario movie,it looks very faithful to the games and the directors that made it said they did played the games,it must’ve been Nintendo’s big project and they put alot of work into it,I like the casting and the visuals

I love it when you mention the meme Let em cook lol, that pic was from Kingdom Hearts 3 and someone put a caption over it,woody doesn’t say it in the game lol 😂

I randomly went into a walmart last month and found this movie in the $3.75 bin because this other YouTuber is doing commentaries on all video game movies... so glad i got it now, didn't even know it was a rare find. If anyone needs to find it that's where you can look

Haven't watched em yet, but the worldbuilding in this totally reminds me of those Escape from L.A./New York movies

One of the wildest things about this movie is, one of the screenwriters was the dude who wrote Rain Man. And his draft was apparently just, Rain Man but with Mario characters. (To the point that his Luigi was mentally-handicapped.) The producers hated the script, and fired him before he even finished the first draft. They even nicknamed the script, “Drain Man.”

The super mario super show was the first time they were canonically plumbers in brooklyn. The show was interesting. It had animated episodes with normal Mario stuff in Mushroom Kingdom, and then inbetween the animated episodes there were live action segments of Mario and Luigi being plumbers and living together in Brooklyn and they would eat pizza and listen to Elvis and fun stuff like that.

I just realized they drive electric powered vehicles because they didn’t have fossil fuels. Don’t know if they mentioned that in the movie but that’s a cool detail they had in this.

I am CRAZY late to this reaction, but I had to wait two whole months to get my copy of Super Mario Bros. from Amazon. And it didn't help that I forgot that I already had a copy of this movie nestled neatly in a coat of dust as thick as the DVD case itself, atop a movie shelf at my sister's house. (We live in different states). So now I'm the proud owner of 2 Super Mario Bros. DVDs, in two time zones, for just over $30. Ya-hoo!
