Where all my Saunders Stans at?!

Escape From Spiderhead is a short story by George Saunders that I remember perfectly well from start to finish, and the main thing I remember especially well is that it is a SHORT story... but Spiderhead is not a SHORT movie. Huh?!

Saunders is one of my favorite authors, and Tenth of December - which this is a part of - is one of my favorite Saunders collections, so I'm very curious to see how they beef this shit up for a feature-length film.

I'm cautiously optimistic... don't let me down, Netflix!

Chris Hemsworth is great! I only ever paid attention to Thor and his other action movies, but awesome to see him in a role like this

so i read “escape from spiderhead” RIGHT before watching this track/movie and i’m gonna say, i did enjoy the movie and story respectively however in the short story it ends with jeff dying if i’m not mistaken, which i interpreted THAT as the only “escape” from the “spiderhead” (what they nickname the control center in the story). so the end almost felt… unsatisfying? not that every movie has to end in death, but when it seems to be the reason for the title, it was a bit of a let down. both for story reasons and the fact that the end of the movie fell flat lol. but overall i enjoyed it and how it added to the short story in a way that felt believable and fitting.

i also love saunders. idk if you read his collection Pastoralia but there was actually a pilot made for a story called Sea Oak that i dont think ever got picked up? it was directed by hiro murai and has glenn close and jack quaid in it and its fucking bonkers just like the short story. highly recommend.

I'm right there with you, Eric, in terms of seeing a favorite author's on-screen credit in one of their adaptations. I was giddy seeing Joe Hill's name pop up during the opening credits for The Black Phone haha
