Well (the) boys and gills... it's finally time! We've avoided all trailers, all screenshots, and even general summaries, but we have seen lots of reactions that it is... wild... and my goodness, that may be the understatement of the year. Right off the bat, season 2 is somehow even more fucked up than season 1. And that is saying A LOT. This is an audio commentary ONLY. fun fact: the duffer bros had to give like a 20 page essay about the upside down (or just the universe of Stranger Things) before they could even pitch the idea of the show to Netflix. So vecna being 00, clock noises, and the biggest bad guy have been planned before they ever even started the show. which is really cool.

your source says they did a 20 page essay about the lore, but i doubt it says they planned vecna. everyone is taking them planning lore b4 s1 to mean they planned vecna and everything. seems very clear from watching they did not.

i’m more so convinced the duffers thought the distorted clock noises sounded cool when entering the upside down and then when writing vecna they just wrote in him as a kid staring at a clock to tie it together like the clock really has no story altering purpose

I hate to break it to you but the Series Bible/Pitch Deck for the show indicates that The Duffers never even intended on having the show take place in Indiana... we were supposed to be chillin' on Long Island, specifically Montauk. When detailing the franchise potential for the series, The Duffers said that the hypothetical (at the time) second season would take place in 1990s, with the kids being young adults with new lives. So, just with those two things in mind, it kinda throws a lot of possibilities for these "planned things" out the window. They do mention that Eleven would have a special relationship with the first subject, Agent 1, who paid special attention to her. There are many things that they originally planned that never came to fruition, but that's kinda the nature of writing a series. It's almost always an evolving project that changes over time as writing is rewriting and new ideas that prove better than the original should be implemented. This isn't a bad thing, it's just to say that it's really really difficult for a screenwriter to plan very specific details that happen in hypothetical subsequent seasons of a show when they've just pitched it for it's first season.

It's really well done especially in terms of just their visual treatment of the actual document to give a feel for the tone of the series.
