We don't take requests...*

It was recently brought to my attention that Rachel Zegler has been commenting on PMI videos for years. Who is Rachel Zegler? Well I haven't seen any of her previous work, but most recently she starred in Mr. Spielberg's first ever movie musical, an updated adaptation of West Side Story! After I tweeted that we saw her lurking in our comments, she promptly replied requesting I watch her latest flick... so here we are!

I never got a chance to see this new West Side Story, and I've actually never seen the original either, but I know how Romeo & Juliet goes sooo I think I get the idea okay? Settle in for this two and a half hour romp through NYC in the 90's, also featuring Ans*l Elg*rt, Hannah Baker's dad Andy, and even THE Rita Moreno! (I figure it out eventually, don't worry, and I know she was the original... Maria? Yeah, something like that.)

*... unless you've starred in a Steven Spielberg film.

Im so late to this track but i feel the need to say that i watched this and then had an epiphany when i realized that bring it on in it to win it's whole sharks vs jetts rivalry and eventual team up is a west side story reference

Rachel is so great. I remember seeing the viral twitter video where she sang Shallow. Honestly, her career is a dream come true, and my theater kid self was so exciting seeing her be cast in a Spielberg movie. I remember specifically seeing the Donna Summer Musical, when I went to New York in 2018, just to see the talented Ariana Debose. I can't believe I was lucky enough to see a future oscar winner on broadway. Thanks for giving me an excuse to watch this again!

My name is very fucking Tom Cruised!

I was a 10 yr old extra in Indy 4: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. No joke. So now we've gotten that out of they way, please watch Treasure Planet 2002. #GoTigers #shutthatdoor, #stayoutofthebasement #lastnightIwas #FerrisBuellerowwww #presspause #playthehitshoney #insertpmiquotehere

In regards to the character that you didn't know what their deal was, I believe they are supposed to be trans. In the original movie that character is a "tomboy" woman (I believe) but they decided to update it for the times. There's a few references to this specifically in the Officer Krupke scene, and then at the end the gang accepts him by calling him "buddy boy".

I kinda got that (pretty sure I never used any specific pronouns just in case) but they seemed completely irrelevant to the story regardless. Ah well

Katie Holmes

ariana debose (anita) also played the “bullet” in hamilton! crazy to see her trajectory

Maria Harrington

Ok you confusing one Maria song (sound of music) for a WSS song killed me. But maybe because I get all of them sung to me I totally get it.

bro a commentary track with your mom of the original would be so wild😂not sure if thats her thing tho lol

Wasn't interested to watch west side story from the trailers maybe because I've never watched the original either, but this movie was really good glad this track got me to watch it!

Jake Hardison

Eric’s mom on the West Side Story (1961) track?

Noe Ramirez

The very first time I saw anything West Side Story was a high school production of it that my friend was in, and it's crazy because that is still my favorite version of this story. When I was watching this movie I was comparing it to that version, and while I like this movie and think it's done very well. It's not better than that high school version I saw when I was a sophomore.

Speaking of, I know you don't take requests but I think you should check out severance even if you never make a commentary track on it. It's a must see series, please make sure you watch it at least once in your life, you won't regret it, and if you do make a track for it all the better.

already laughing in suspense of you realizing it's ANDY

i will admit at the end, my first watch through i thought ansel’s face did lean on the goofy side but the more i rewatch this movie the more it makes me sob. and how happy rachel looks when she’s running toward him… fuck, man, it gets me more and more. i was fortunate enough to watch the og before this one and i feel you would have benefited from it, but not by much lol. this is just such a dream movie for me seeing all my broadway favorites (so many newsies) on screen. felt like i was in the musical myself which i always love.
