What's your favorite Scream movie?

Alright, I'll admit it: I'm a fake ass horror fan. The only Scream movie I've seen is the first, and it was so long ago I barely remember it. But it's finally time to right this wrong.

In preparation for a brand new entry in the series, I marathoned Scream 1, 2, 3, and 4 from the comfort of my new van Ruth. Less comfortable? The various creepy parking lots I sat around in all night. But hey, couldn't have picked a better spooky setting to watch these movies in!

And then I watched the new Scream.

Like, the NEW one.

Scream 5.

That's right, folks. Ruth and I hit up drive-in to watch the fifth installment on opening night, and now you can watch along with my commentary track in the theater! Or you can wait til the movie is streaming, I guess. Or maybe you're reading this in the year 2050 and nothing matters!

I had an absolute blast finally catching up on this series, as well as recording my first ever drive-in commentary track, and I hope you enjoy the shit out of it!!!

PS. GO TIGERS!!

This is my third watch-through and my excuse to re-watch after the Scream 6 trailer came out. Scream is my FAVORITE franchise (at the risk of sounding like a Richie) and this movie DELIVERED for me. Not in theaters getting my leg grabbed but watching in my dorm -- this video feels like we're on facetime.

ALSO: the 'For Wes' title card at the beginning of the closing credits is a tribute to Wes Craven, (the legend who directed the first four films in the Scream franchise who died in 2015)

So happy you liked this, Scream is my all time favorite movie and this movie did it such justice. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly highly recommend the directors/ writers other movie Ready or Not with Samara Weaving, it's absolutely amazing.

rewatching before going to see scream 6 - and oh my god i can't believe i missed it the first time but clays mum in the movie literally calls him 'tiger' at one point... i scrome

My name is very fucking Tom Cruised!

Putting this out to the universe in hopes it will happen. But it would be great to get tracks for the three I Know What You Did Last Summer movies. In preparation for the new legacy sequel just announced. The first one was written by Kevin Williamson (writer for Scream 1,2 and 4). The first two movies are fun teen slashers, the third is hilarious material to commentate on. The show sucked ass. Within the Scream and IKWYDLS universes you have 3 of the 4 main cast of Scooby Doo. So that alone is reason enough.

Erin

yay finally listening to this track alongside the movie (thanks paramount trial)

cameron

ThNk you for letting us know you’re saying “Bitch” in the Scream sense and not the derogatory way Eric 😭😭

alex monkhouse

Yessssss, I just watched it in the cinema today and loved it!

Hailey

Ahhh! I’ll be seeing Scream tomorrow in theaters with a huge group of friends. My friend Piper and I will be the only ones with an AirPod in our ears for your commentary because DUH. SO EXCITED

Maria Harrington

I am now going to see this in theaters solely so I can hear it with commentary

haley powell

the way youre gonna make me laugh in the theater at the worst possible time,, im so excited

Jeminite

When you mentioned “tiger”, my mind thought it would Dylan Minnette aka Clay Jensen, one of our favorite Liberty High Tigers 🐅 P.S. I think it was pretty clever of you to do a commentary for a newly released movie at a drive in movie theater

pmreez

Dope!!! You got the chance to try this out, I remember you talking about it before. So excited to watch this in the theatre with the track lmao - will be back to let you know how it was!

Alexandra

i'm seeing this tomorrow with my parents, now i'm going to have to explain patreon to them to explain why i'm wearing headphones in the theater

Padverus

I’ll probably have to wait for the digital release or for the blu-ray release. With covid the movie theatres aren’t allowing anyone to take off there masks which means no eating or drinking, I think it would of been a cool experience though to watch a movie in theatres while listening to one of your commentary tracks. I can’t wait to hear how it went for the people who are gonna be watching it in theatres. The drive in idea is great, unfortunately there’s only one drive in playing the movie in my Province and it’s a bit too far from my hometown. I’m not too bothered though, now I have the other 4 movies to watch along with the commentary tracks while I wait :)

Billy THE KID Lawrence

Dude. Fuck yes. I love when Eric drops a bunch like this, especially when's a fun horror series. Scream is one of the best. Can't wait to watch these later tonight.

Katie Holmes

THAT WAS FANTASTIC WITH THE TRACK IN THE THEATER LOVED HOW META??? THE TRACK WAS WITH THE THEATER EXPERIENCE IF THAT MAKES SENSE LIKE YOU MENTIONING I AM IN A THEATER WAS SO FUN! definitely fits with the theme of these movies lmao

Hailey

Just got out of the theater and man was this a good time, commentary included, of course! My favorite part was turning my phone way up or down because I couldn’t hear you when the drama was going down but then you were to loud when the chill scenes were happening.💀 Nonetheless I highly recommend everyone listen in theaters. My friend and I were cracking up. Every time you said “Are you watching in theaters?” My friend and I would lean over our whole friend group and give each other a knowing look hahaha. 10/10

My name is very fucking Tom Cruised!

Okay so this movie was great and the commentary elevated everything. It would be a dream come true to have Eric commentate on other horror franchises, preferably more slashers. Like all 4 psycho movies, the I know what you did last summer movies, Childs play etc. the best part about these franchises is that there is some really cool stuff that goes on as well as hilarious bat shit crazy things that Eric would be wheezing at. Solo in the van of course 😉

prettymuchit

ahhhhhh love this!! especially the idea of you and your friend hearing the same thing nobody else does and looking at each other throughout hahaha fantastic!

Jaymen Neff-Strickland

Eric, I know you’re a fan of The Leftovers, so I’m guessing you recognize Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy Meeks-Martin character) from that. She was from the second season of The Leftovers.

Gray

watched the first time by myself then went back and watched it with you. both experiences were so good, loved this series and seeing you experience all of them for the first time + see this one! made it literally so much more fun :) (knew you'd call him clay the whole time i predicted it)

Anonymous

Decided to watch this track at my local drive in cause I knew id be cracking up, and let me tell you, i was not disappointed 😂 Big props to you for managing to make this crazy idea work, pls keep em coming!

natey boi

i just watched this on cam footage on a shady website cos i didn’t wanna have to pay to see it again lol gave my shit 26 viruses probably but it was worth it to watch it with you daddy eric 😌

Bendoe

listening to Eric verbally harass Clay Jensen was worth the price of admission

Connor Clarey

I gripped the thigh of the person to the right of me at the theater and did not say sorry at the end, told him Eric told me to do it lmao

Connor Clarey

Also thought it was funny the girl who played amber in this and she ends up catching on fire from the stove. Literally was one of the Manson cult people in Once upon a time in Hollywood who gets torched by Rick Dalton in the end lol

Kane 'KanesTheName' Brough

The shot of her running towards the camera screaming right before she gets shot in the head mirrors OUaTiH too! A very weird parallel that I can't figure out is intentional or not LOL

Barbara

the cam version i watched had english dialogue but french text messages and I couldn't find actual captions so i thought i was gonna be totally lost.. but you ALSO couldn't read the text msgs and didn't have subtitles! drive in/cam stream solidarity ✊

Michael

Listened to a track in a theater for the first time. Even though it was almost empty it was hilarious trying not to laugh while people got killed or while you whispered in my ear about being in a theater lol what a blast

My name is very fucking Tom Cruised!

Hey guys, Jamie Kennedy posted a reaction video for the new movie. It’s a pretty damn good watch. (Do yourself a favour and set the playback speed to 1.25x, the guy speaks a little slow). It’s awesome to hear his thoughts on it. https://youtu.be/ORqHvb10DhA

Iliwa Iriamai

First time listening to a commentary track in theatres. Loved it! Felt really meta

Devin Biello

Finally was able to try this out in the theater, worked incredibly well. Had to hold in my laughter for the Hannah Baker references, such a fun commentary for the theater.

Max Wilkerson

Loved the movie, but some dude with headphones on wouldn't stop grabbing my thigh??? Just kept telling me his buddy Eric told him to do it, but i'm pretty sure he wasn't there with anyone. Super weird.

Ryan Ferris

Just got out of the theater. Unfortunately no one was to my right so no thigh grabs. Had to hold in my laughter a few times, but when you mentioned driving straight through the screen I laughed out loud and two people turned their heads to me

My name is very fucking Tom Cruised!

Part 2 babyyy https://youtu.be/brkQWsS6ytQ P.s. Eric, if you don’t go on Airbnb and book the Scream house to stay at when you eventually do Scream 6 you’ve missed an opportunity 😂.

Elly

SO excited for this. I work at a movie theatre so the plan is to watch first with a friend and then go back for round two with the commentary. wish me luck

Alec Figueroa

Lol did anyone else have to find a way to resync mid movie because patreon buffered or someone called you? Because both happened to me 😂 what a fun and meta experience this was, perfect franchise to do this with.

Jim Night

Heeey Eric thanks for doing Scream series, it's a childhood fave lol! It got me thinking about other 90's noughties horror, Urban legend was great!

Reese

You missed a lot, which isn’t your fault. You were very far back. I can try to fill you in on some. Chad and Mindy are twins, they’re also Randy’s niece and nephew. Which is why Mindy is the one doing the rules in this installment. When they were doing the “turn around Jamie”, it was EVEN MORE meta because that was her “uncle’s” character lol. At the end when you asked who that was in the ambulance, it was Chad (the twin and the jock), he survived. He was supposed to die but the actor was just too charismatic and they didn’t want to kill him off lol. Dewey had Tatum’s ashes in his house right beside his picture of Gale. On the part where Jack Quaid was watching “The Kill Count” there were 2 very important headlines on the right side of the screen. One was confirming that Kirby (Hayden Panettiere, Scream 4) actually survived, the other was a video titled “Did the real life Stu Macher survive?”. Stu was supposed to return as the killer in Scream 3, but Columbine happened and they rewrote the script. But technically, Stu did survive, at least at one point in time. So that headline could indicate he can still return, especially since they used his house in this movie. Those were the most important ones to me, but there were other things like the note on the fridge from Wes’s (Clay Jensen lol) mom saying “Lemon Squares are in the fridge”, it’s a callback to the joke in Scream 4. Also the “For Wes” party was for Wes Craven in a way. Sidney married Mark Kincaid from Scream 3 Also, the pretty girl, Liv, is related to the family that Drew Barrymore's character's (Casey Becker) dad told her mom to run to in order to call the police. I wanted to post this before my pledge ran out, but forgot. Now that I accidentally renewed it, this is my chance lol.

Élodie Grace

I know this track came out forever ago but I'm getting around to watching the scream movies and I thought you'd like to know that the song that plays during the actual credits (after the montage) is by Dylan Minnette's band!

AtomicSpike

This was so much fun! I haven't been to a drive-in forever but watching this movie with the PMI video commentary made it feel like we were at the drive-in with you. Thumbs up to the experiment and I hope you do it again.

Brittany

Finally watching this track, gonna try to remember everything I wanted to say. My fiance gave a hearty (quiet) Go Tigers! after uhh, Dylans kitchen scene. Loved all the 13 Reasons Why references and jokes, everything I hoped for going into this track lol. I joked that the killer was going to be Amber from the start because she was one of the Manson family members in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and lo and behold, she was absolutely crazy in this movie too lol. I have met some of the cast members at horror conventions, and I totally fangirled while meeting David Arquette. I have always loved him and thought he was hilarious growing up. I actually gushed to him about Ready to Rumble because my dad and I watched it all the time as a kid and can quote the whole movie. I even chose a still from that movie over Scream for my autograph. I kinda felt embarrassed after because I was 26 at the time and felt like a damn teenager lmao. But I finally watched his doc a couple of months ago and he seemed so bummed out during it, and looking at the timeline, it seems I met him not long after him filming that, so I hope maybe it helped him feel good, especially since I was fanning over that movie, while it was the whole wrestling fiasco that kinda hurt his career and him in the wrestling community. Thought maybe this would be nice story to share on this video. It's July, and I am gearing up for my favorite time of year, spooky season! Can't wait to see what content you do for it!
