also my understanding is the host was just a rich guy who would bet on the games with his rich clients its implied they've been runing the game for decades and now he's dying so he wanted one last ride, a little obserd but super fun and Fucking BEAUTIFUL, the cinimitogropher popped off

The old man is just a guy with too much money so helped create the games to have some excitement and joy in their life since they were bored of it. The whole killing lots of people is just for fun for entertainment, like watching horses at a racetrack, they target the ones desparately in need because they're the easiest to exploit with money. It's also part of why despite them saying the games are "fair", we see quite a bit it's not, the very existence of the VIPs being there to watch shows they actually don't care about being fair, it is all for pleasure for them. The contestants lives are meaningless to them. Literally putting a price on human life. He only really makes the comparison to how poor people live to tell Gi-Hun that for rich people life is also not fun so they did all of this for fun.

As much as I love horror and horror drama and stuff like... I can't pretend I don't really appreciate the help to get through it haha.
