SPOILER ALERT i think they had to have the other actors in the 1666 version because if it was just deena and sheriff goode then we would know goode was bad because he was the only one from the other movies

SPOILER ok so the nurse didn't die she got put in jail or something for trying to kill tommy and then also the last little bit where the guy was hit by a truck was to imply the curse is now on sunnyvale instead of shadyside thats all i know

**SPOILER** sam is possessed because, after interrogating them at the end of 1994, sheriff goode started to suspect that they were onto something regarding his family's deal with the devil, so at the end of 1994, nick gave sam's soul to the devil so she would "go crazy" and get rid of deena and josh so they wouldn't risk the exposure of the truth :)

i felt part of the reason they chose to reuse actors is it lets them save time on establishing those characters. The characters for the most part save their attributes, so deenas friends in 1994 are friers friends in 1666, sam and fier are lovers, thomas becomes evil, etc. So you already like and dislike specific characters because of who they were in the last movies.
