Hey guys, I just got some info in the e-mail about upcoming changes regarding EU patrons. Apparently there are some changes that might potentially require you to authenticate the payment.

More info should be HERE

Right now I don't have much more info and don't know if there is anything I can do, but I'll try to inform if I get more info.

From what I've understood from this article, every time you make a pledge to a new creator, Patreon will yeet you to your bank page and uhhh you gotta log into your bank or enter authentication code or some shid.

Not necessarily. It states in the article that it only applies to payments made over €30. Also, any direct debits that are currently set up will not be currently included i.e recurring payments. Obviously this remains to be seen and those who pledge to multiple artists that surpass €30 will get hit (like me). However, again all payments are recurring which 'should' fall under the direct debit line. It should mainly affect those who make a new first time €30 pledge after the 14th or someone who adds an additional pledge that brings their total to surpass it. Either way, it's a nice security feature but will be annoying at the start to get used to.

My issue is with how the authentication looks, my experience is that any kind of hassle people have to go through just decreases the engagement (e.g. i you have to click on a link in twitter post or something like this where potential patrons just says 'eh too much work'). Additionally, you are asking people to confirm they are paying for a porn patreon, which can scare people off as well. Yes it can be a nice feature but as usually it was forced on us by our great overlords even when lot of people are not interested.
