The second poll has come to a close, and it looks like we're going to be making...

A fairy blacksmith!

Unlike the first poll, this one wasn't even remotely close. Members of the patron Discord server seemed to think that the funny juxtaposition there was the deciding factor, and I appreciate that. It's very SLARPG.

In fact, blacksmith had such a big lead all weekend that Anthony and I decided that we should just start working on a design early. Anthony went through more concepts than usual this time as he was unsure how hard to balance the disparate blacksmith and fairy elements. Ultimately I decided we should lean harder on the fairy aspect, because your typical cute little fairy working as a blacksmith is funnier to me. (I'd show these scrapped concepts here, but I don't want folks to get attached to them. Maybe someday.)

What Anthony landed on was this!

However, I thought she needed just a couple small tweaks.

For one, she's pretty tall, and those proportions wouldn't translate well to a sprite that needed to be about half the size of the party members. So I squished her like a marshmallow and she came out short and chubby. A couple other designs also had her wielding a disproportionally large hammer, which I liked, so I added that back in. And for the final touch I thought that a pair of blacksmith's goggles would make a good accessory to convey her job better at a glance.

And so, we arrived at... our fairy blacksmith sprite! (Melody included for scale. She's a bit larger than your typical fairy, but her sprite needs to be clearly readable when zoomed out, and she's still the smallest humanoid NPC in the game.)

But wait! This is in black and white! What gives? Well, that's where round 3 comes in. It's time to vote on a color palette!

Here are your options:

With that, let's get voting! This poll will end on Friday, September 24th, at noon EST.

It's really hard to see a hammer as a hammer in that position. My mind keeps falling back to that being some sort of fence being leaned on and the hammer head just being ground.

in the actual game she's hovering with a shadow beneath her, so it's more obvious
