Unless the anime adds it in a random flashback- which they haven't so far; a fun fact from the fanbook is that Toji got his scar from being bullied as a kid. Because of his inability to kill or fight curses w/o tools, he was pushed into a pit of curses by other Zenin clan members as a child and attacked.
