It's very understandable why you'd think like that about Washijo(Shiratoriawa coach) but think about this... If he really wants to "kill" Hinata's spark, he'd just send him home. Instead he lets him stay because that's what Hinata wanted. "To see what strong players are like outside the court." But, he can't just let Hinata play in practice, otherwise, what's the point of the selection process . And let's face it, Hinata is an amazing person but he's short and lacks a bunch of technical volleyball skill. If we are to "hate" Washijo for not selecting Hinata, we should also "hate" the people in charge of selecting athletes for the All-japan youth camp because they did not select Hinata as well.

this arc always hurts my heart. especially as a volleyball player right now in high school. hinata wanting to catch up and it just feels like everything you've worked for has gone to waste. because kageyama is a great setter, but hinata can become a great hitter too. it's all about personal growth THEN coming together for the team. i don't think washjio wants to break down hinata, but is toughing him out in a sense. it hurts but it's needed.

Completely agree with the comments that he is lacking in the technical aspects of the game. And he definitely isn't ready for the Shiratorizawa camp, let alone all- Japan youth camp. It has nothing to do his height, but his skill level. Yes, he has put in a lot of work but tends to rely on his athleticism and reflexes too much. Realistically, without Kageyama to bring out 100% of his ability, he is an average spiker who can't block, serve or receive well. So in a way, what Washijo said about him last episode is correct.
