I wouldn’t really say that Annie was “close” to Eren, she wasn’t really close to anyone. But there was something interesting I noticed in one of the OVAs (that took place before Annie was revealed to be the Female Titan of course): you can actually see her hanging around Armin a lot. And when Armin left the group (during a competition), Annie refused to keep participating. He didn’t have any relevance to her mission, so we can rule that factor out. It was really subtle but I feel like she just... liked him. Even back then. Especially considering she spared his life twice when she really shouldn’t have. Armin also waited a really long time before finally coming forward with his theory about Annie. And now that he has Bertholdt’s memories, he is able to understand her side of things even better. So I get why he’d want to talk to her, even if she isn’t able to respond.
