This is the problem when you try to condense very long books into relatively short donghua. And it doesn’t help that so many of the characters look so similar and the names so difficult for Westerners to remember. But in amongst all the action, I think the writer does really well at holding on to those emotional beats. I find her style of jumping backwards and forwards in time can be a little bit of a strain, but she does sometimes use it to great effect. So I think your expressions tend to mirror mine when I watched - equal parts enjoyment and confusion, plus a lot of time trying to work out what character I’m looking at!
