Aaaaaaahhhhhh I forgot how much this episode fucked me up, the reveal of Tohru's speech pattern gets me every time! 😭

part of the reason I love tohru so much is that her type of trauma is almost never depicted in fiction. We are used to seeing trauma manifest in ways that cause anger, bitterness, isolation, etc (kinda like Kyo and Yuki)... But its not often we see how trauma can cause someone to become self destructively giving. We tend to see characters like Tohru as almost unrealistically perfect and don't think for a second that there could be reasons why she has to always put others first. and why she can never ever take care of herself.

We’re about past the point by now, but in the manga we would’ve had a tiny focus on Kyoko-Tohru a few episodes ago as in the manga there was a mini Kakeru arc where he meets and apologizes to Tohru (and expands more on Tohru’s sad smiles and acting like she’s happy all the time). The arc would’ve gone into Kakeru and Tohru’s relation that’s been weirdly hinted at but never answered in the anime, that Kakeru’s girlfriend’s dad is the driver of the car that killed Kyoko—also dying in the process. When the funeral happened, Kakeru said some super cruel and insensitive things to Tohru to defend his girlfriend, but had since grown since then and felt bad about it this whole time. It really sucks as it’s some super nice info and relationship nuance between characters that never interact (we would’ve also met Kakeru’s girlfriend by now as Yuki comes over to visit his house </3). It would’ve also been a nice way to transition into this episode and really preparing for the Kyoko-Tohru feels we’ve missed for a while.

Rin actually got very mad that kagura slapped tohru and they got into it in the manga idk why they left that part out….shows you rin actually thinks of her as a friend and is protective.
