both of you are awesome

Yet another banger, really love these podcasts, you guys are striking gold rn.

Sometimes filler makes sense, that's honestly what filler should be imo. Alabasta is a good example of good filler. Exploring the culture of a place to make it feel alive, or deepening relationships between characters is always a great thing in my book. There are other arcs that also has good filler, the problem starts when one lingers on a shot longer and fill time with empty scenes, which doesn't become a real problem until waaaay later. Great discussion! I'm excited to continue following your journey.

On the last point I would love to see more podcasts! I the one piece community lives for longform content tbf

Whoopsie

Great stuff and yeah as the arcs get bigger which they do I think most everyone would be down with arc by arc discussions. Cannot wait for the next big one as its a favorite of mine.

Btw cool detail, in the episode where Robin is first introduced, she appears on their ship and yoinks Luffy's hat and puts it on her head. A good example of Oda's mind games lol, and foreshadowing if you can call it that. Maybe it's foreshadowing, but it's not obvious at all at the time. It's one of those things that adds up and eventually you feel like any line said by any character, or any action taken, can end up meaning a lot Apologies if that's already been mentioned to you guys

LoriJoy

Love ya guys 💓

Artimes

They will need 300 extra's to emulate a proper war as well. Eventually OP will grow so much in the set pieces and scope that oda creates that clearly it will end up superceding the medium of live action. So it will be interesting to see how they tackle these challenges. The kind of funding they had for Season 1 is no way going to cut it. They need GOT level of budget if im being honest lol.

Great video guys please do more; any excuse you can find to do these long form podcasts I’ll take they are a very nice change of pace! Also congrats on finishing your first modern one piece arc. The story goes that Oda originally meant for one piece to be a much much shorter story but around alabasta he gave up on that and thus this new version of one piece was born. It’s really interesting to look back on it but early one piece was very different in tone and scope of the storytelling than it eventually gets and you can start to see that shift here. Also I think you guys mentioned it before but yes this is considered to be one of the more solid arcs in one piece although the consensus goated arcs; your chimera ants from hxh, your pains from Naruto are yet to come so get exited it’s only up (and sometimes down) from here!

Artimes

So yes we love these long form podcasts, keep them up. One piece is just so big right now in the world and I think its partly because of the success of the live action, a very critical high budget arc in the anime celeberating its 20th anniversary and also oda declaring that the long 25+ year manga is coming to an end. Either way its never been a greater time to be an OP fan and you guys really picked the perfect time to get into the OP franchise. There is alot of exciting moments to come and if alabasta excited you, just wait till you see whats on the horizon.

Personally I think that the Live Action will totally go to the end of Alabasta in Season two. I think that people who don't think it's possible are thinking too literally about a 1:1 adaptation, which is definitely not going to happen when you consider how cleverly they mixed arcs and shortened things in season one (especially Mihawk + Don Krieg and Arlong showing up at Baratie). I think that with the huge success of the show and Netflix's big investment in One Piece-related media they're going to get a bigger budget, and with a lot of the initial costs of the show like ship building, etc out of the way, I think they could totally get ten episodes like they originally wanted Season one to be. And with ten episodes, even with two for Drum Island and four or five for Alabasta you could easily cover the entire arc, especially when you consider the things that are likely to be Don Krieg'd. (I'd bet money on Wapol.) Plus, I think that that shot of them leaving Alabasta with their arms in the air for Vivi is just too good to pass up for an end cap to the season (with Nico Robin as a post-credit scene). The weaker arcs earlier in the season are worth condensing significantly for more focus on Alabasta.

I subscribed to yall patreon for the one piece reactions I can’t wait for you two to see what’s in store.

Matthew Gilroy

I cant wait for those Jaya reactions man. That shit is PEAK

Gino

I think this will work really well, the next arc is short but like loguetown, it has a lot to be talked about and then they will be much larger

Corgi

Not to excuse Whiskey Peak's weak points in terms of structure and storytelling. But originally Vivi was not supposed to be the Alabasta princess (only an agent), it's something that sprouted into his mind and he added spontaneously. You'll learn more and even now that Oda is and has been very spontaneous but also a great gardener/planner.

klairvoyance

There's always so much I want to say with these discussions but it's really hard to engage in the convo with the amount of foresight we have😭 Great podcast episode & can't wait to revisit these talking points in later arcs^^

Martin Hagen

fantastic podcast guys, people forget you're human beings behind the camera. I love this show to death, but to deny it has it's flaws and getting "upset" that it's called out is just silly :D Opinions are subjective either way. Your mindset for watching one piece is perfect imo. that way it's only going to keep positively surprising you! keep up the great work.

Jack Shadow

Waiting for new arc reactions

Boldcast

coming up soon been really struggling to keep up the past few days sorry about that, we should have some more vids up tonight

After two sagas, I hope most people “get” y’all and understand your commentary well enough that you get less of the “Oda is infallible and there’s nothing that should be criticized outside of what’s been agreed upon by the fandom.” But I agree, once Oda broke out of the established pattern, the story really hits its stride. Arlong Park is where I felt like Oda could do emotionally resonant scenes, but Alabasta is where I felt that Oda could REALLY create a strong narrative arc. Almost every aspect of the arc was incredibly well done and felt like the first time I could see glimpses of the “best story ever written” claims holding some weight.

Povlo Vlastela

Take your time, yall great

Tomas

IMO there is an arc that is canon filler. A less serious arc Oda used to take a brake from the overarching story of the series and literally play some fun and games. Thought it was cool that the Live Action made reference to it in the first episode. What I know as the most famous filler arc in the series comes along side it in the series, as if the anime writers decided to try and compete with it. I've found many fans who ended up enjoying that filler more than the canon goofy arc.

Povlo Vlastela

You should totaly check out cover stories. They are short and add a lot in a long run. The one you can watch now is Jango and Fulbody

Milton

I'm excited to see their reaction of episode 151

Madao San

guys you need pop filters with your mics.
