+1 the source material is quite good in that regard, while some choices here just seemed strange, which in turn though makes me excited/scared for how they plan to cover & split up the upcoming arcs across the for now planned 24eps

This was way faster in the Manhwa but the point of this episode was just to flesh out the penalty/reward system tied to the system. I'd say the nailed every aspect for this show so far except for the pacing.
