Envyus

Crocodile is one of One Piece's most iconic villains, this is episode is one of the reasons why.

Envyus

Remember because he's a Warlord Crocodile's Bounty has been frozen for years. Which is the case for all of them, so Bounty is not a good indicator of a Warlord's threat.

Mo za

Let them get suprised its part of the journey.

klairvoyance

I think it's funny they think Luffy survived this whole ordeal, when in fact the remaining 980 episodes are all filler, known as Two Piece, with Buggy D. Clown as the mc

Tope

Lashes is really the unsung MVP of this arc

Veritas

Welp, I vote Nami as new captain. I think Oda has even stated that Crocodile was added too early. But I think a humbling experience does a story/character good, this can be like how Mihawk pushed Zoro, minus the mercy.

The image of Luffy on Crocodile's hook is one of my favorite shots in all of One Piece. It's a wake up call that brute force isn't going to do anything in the Grand Line. You need to be creative, you need need to have the will to keep getting back up and you need to expand what you think is possible. Mihawk said it back in Barattie: "Learn about the world, learn about yourself and become strong."

Jambron

Who knew Luffy could get such a piercing reality check? Are you guys hooked yet? 🤡

I’ve been waiting for this episode since we started one piece it’s my favorite display of villain set up in all of fiction. So few villains actually follow through on threats and we see crocodile follow through on several in this sequence. Him reality checking luffy is also awesome it reminds me a bit of what happens to kite in the chimera ant arc with a previously unstoppable character getting easily beaten in order to set stakes for how strong people will be in the story going forward. I just love it when villains cut the bullshit and actually get shit done. Also him attacking yuba for literally no reason is great super petty absolutely villain activity. And as an aside the clothes thing; in one piece it’s cannon that clothes are affected by the users devil fruit you’ll see peoples clothes turn into there element when they transform or luffys clothes stretch when he uses his powers.

Artimes

Its really that reality check, like that tone shift you just did not expect because up to this point, one piece has been genually pretty tame and luffy not ever taking anything remotly serously. Well time to wake up, this is the grand line.

Gino

Buggy Next Generation, he inherited Luffy's will

Gino

Remember that he was supposed to ended it in 5 years, so it's understandable

EOussama

This episode has so many absolutely stunning sunset wallpapers. Luffy really pulled up all the finishers against his past opponents, and even went ahead and stole one of Wapol's moves and munched on Crocodile. Crocodile is more like Sand Man than Gara in a sense.

I only pay for my subscription to this Patreon for the one piece content. I will say I was looking forward to this reaction and I really like the discussion after the reaction. Very well analyzed by you two and good content. I was thoroughly entertained by your viewpoints.

On my rewatch, I like the fact Luffy tried to eat crocodile like Wapol so much. It at least shows that when he can't just brute force the situation, he tries to find workarounds.

I love the analysis and theorizing so much. You talked before about how some people don't like when you talk about the writing process, specifically about whether or not something was fully worked out when it was introduced or if it was tweaked slightly to fit the way the story was developing over time. I can speak for at least a good portion of people when I say that I love that type of discussion, it gives me a great view of how you interpret and value plot elements and also shows me that you are invested in the nitty gritty of the story. Something I enjoy so much about your guys' content is how much weight you put on the character defining moments and the 'why' of a confrontation rather than just being enamored with the spectacle of it all.

When the music stops and Crocodile says "Who do you think I am?". The voice acting was sooo gooooooood

Francis Peñano
