The glowing bird things are called the Rukh and are the power system and source of life in the world. There are light and dark Rukh similar to how the Force works in Star Wars. Also, the Sinbad spinoff is actually a prequel for the main story.

Magi was kind of populair when it originally aired but it lost that popularity as newer anime came out. It's one of the anime I've always been surprised to see no reactions too, I think it's really solid but I can also see why it has been overshadowed in later years. Personally I really love this anime tho
