About the fog thing, I'm not sure how the dub phrased it in episode 20, but in the sub it's implied that if you're killed by the "fog beam" attack thing the white whale does, you get erased from everyone's memory. If you're killed by the whale in other ways, you're still remembered. Apparently, in the light novel they are more explicit about that to the point that part of the attack plan was to divide everyone into groups of 15 (I think that's the number?). When someone gets gotten by the fog attack, the power of the white whale doesn't erase the fact that they decided to separate out into equal groups, so when they count up each squadron, they'll see the incongruity in count per group. The white whale's power would only change that 15 number to something lower in people's memory if all squadrons end up losing someone, since it wouldn't be an incongruity anymore. They sorta allude to this part of the plan in episode 20 when Crusch asks "how many did you lose?" and the soldier answers with a number, but when she asks "who did you lose?" he says "I don't know". It's a shame they had to cut some of the planning portion out for time.

Yeah we had some issues literally even until the last ep. about how exactly the whale erased people. It would have been soooo much better if they had made it really clear about the fact that the fog erases you but you can still die and not be forgotten. Its a really cool power for an enemy to have but it would have been cooler if we weren't confused about it
