Franky was actually created with the intention that Hazuki Yao the voice of Jango and Mr 2 would voice him cause Oda enjoyed his performances so much.

I still loathe him for the rest of my life 💢 but Oda really did a great job creating him as a villain character 😅

Ray Den

its amazing how you start off hating franky but end up liking him later. one of my fav things about this arc is frankys character arc

klairvoyage

Carson I think you have some misapprehension about the depictions of the deaths in One Piece. I always go by the rule, ‘if they’re actually showed to be dead, then they died.’ But I applied that to the manga mostly. With this anime, the animators and writers have taken liberties with scenes like the judicial ship being attacked and the Nanohara boat crash scene to be more intense. Carson, you asked if the crying little girl with her stuff toy died because of that cutaway shot of the toy left behind on the ground. Well, I can only say, who knows, because that little girl was added into the anime. Theres no panel of the little girl shown in the manga when this happened, only a panel of someone carrying an injured person. To bring up the Nanohara boat incident again, Carson, you talked about how you reacted to the boat crashing and crushing into civilians, causing casualties. Again the animators and writers took liberties than what was shown in the manga. Even the anime, again, had a quick cutaway of a crying baby on the ground with a mass crowd passing the baby. That wasnt shown in the manga, in fact, in chapter 171 & 172, the boat is both showed and told that it only crashed into the port/harbor. Episode 107 took liberties with showing the boat gliding in the air and crashing into the mass crowd to create a more grand theatric and very dramatic scene. To compare to another Shonen Jump title, in JJK, during the Sukuna vs Mahoraga fight in the Shibuya Arc, both in the manga and anime, there is a scene of civilians casualties being shown when Sakuna unleashed his domain expansion. No liberties in the anime was being taken at that scene, only extending the fight scene. Now, I’m not trying to cause a stir about the morality or how death is depicted in One Piece. Or how Carson and Lindsay are perceiving it. I dont know if it changes Carson’s view on Bon Clay or Robin. I really just enjoy this series, both anime and manga, because I have re-read it and rewatched it and theres always little details that you can pickup that aren’t as noticeable during the first read/watch-through Sorry if this seems like I’m ranting or rambling, not my intention. I’m glad this arc is engaging you two alot more than the pervious arcs and I hope you’ll continue enjoying this phenomenal saga.

Mking Spandam man, I'm ready to pick up the pitchfork every day of the week to torture the mf. This backstory is so great in a way because of how well it shines a light on why current Franky and Iceberg are the people they are. Also, yes, Franky and Mr 2 are voiced by the same voice actor.

josephocenada

guys, imagine bald carson wearing chopper horns 😂😂😂 complements lindsay's chopper hat without horns 😅 and they do it on episode 290 (or redo it)

millecamps

Mr.2 only impersonated the king. it was Mr.1 and Miss Double Finger who launched the boat on the city

Jack Shadow

Yeeah, Spandam is one of the worst in One Piece for sure.

Sonicluis

Spandam was probably my most hated character, until a recently new character. But it’s crazy how the things spandam did make me hate him for 700 plus episodes.

One thing Oda truly excels at, is making you instantly hate a character with all your being. He is just so good at it. I won't go into future characters of course, but this already happened with a few.. Bellamy is another great example of this lol

LeeJay

Just noticed the Spandam post is pinned LOL Yeah, he's not very nice.

Boldcast

“I just drove the getaway car, I didn’t kill the hostages” Or more accurately, “I didn’t shoot the hostages, I just got the money out of the vault”

As someone else mentioned just above, though they did terrible things, it's important to note that the anime blew the visuals and events out of proportion compared to what we see in the manga. So, it does tend to make Mr. 2 less likeable. I do like the character personally, but I understand what you mean. Having a likeable personality and one good deed doesn't make all of his past bad actions okay. What I do enjoy about OP, though, is that there are a lot of grey areas, and often, it isn't as simple as good vs. evil in a Manichean way. You can spend time thinking about why you would root for certain characters or try to understand why some are acting a certain way. It's also fun when Oda flips the story on itself and makes you change your mind. You can look forward to many antagonists that you will love to hate in this story, but I do agree that Spandam is an opportunistic piece of shit with afaik no redeemable qualities.

Yagi di Hoshi

i'll chalk it up to the pacing of the anime nowadays, but, im not sure if even a few characters after him match how much i've despised spandam. well, maybe at least a couple

josephocenada

hope 250 is scheduled today (in 4 hours) can't wait to see enraged Carson 😅
