Long Ring Long Land on HD TV!!!! The timing lol. I usually skip this arc when reactors get to it but I'ma give it a go this time. It's been a long time since I rewatched it. Time to enjoy the characters being goofballs for a while before the real shit begins again

Respect for giving it another try. I think the reason most people dislike it so much is because their first time watching was so long ago that they don't really remember and now they fill in that lack of memory with the wide spread idea that the arc sucks.

About what Bellamy said: In the old OG fansubs for One Piece Bellamy doesn't say "he would've reached you some day", but instead says something along the lines of: "All I can do is bully small fry at the moment, but _I_ will reach your level some day" or something like that. I remember it being different from CR. Completely different meaning and, tbh, makes more sense than this retrospective weasling. Have to check the manga to see what he actually said but I've loaned them to my nephew lol. The translation will differ depending on the context of the situation because of the pronouns issue (I don't think "he" or "I" are mentioned in that snippet at all, so it relies on context). I mean sure it's usually safe to defer to official subs, but I've seen some horrendous "official subs" that even with my feeble level of Japanese I can tell is a weird choice or just wrong.
